The Sailor By Geof Hewitt

In the movie the boat goes under
And he alone survives the night in the cold ocean,
Swimming he hopes in a shoreward direction.
Daylight and he's still afloat, pawing the water
And doesn't yet know he's only fifty feet from shore.
He goes under for what will be the last time
But only a few feet down scrapes bottom.
He's suddenly a changed man and half hops, half swims,
The remaining distance, hauls himself water logged
Partway up the beach before collapsing into sleep.
As he dreams the tide comes in
and rolls him back to sea.

Emptiness

Emptiness refers to something
Kong or neutral, it says
nothingness in some solid
shaped space, here, nothingness
is Wu. If the lost is empty,
we know that NO car is parked
and no object occupies the place.
what about "Fishing in the air?"
Again, this tells that one
won't catch a fish in the air,
or all efforts are wasted
and empty results are led
when one is in a wrong position.
Fish need water to survive,
we need air to breathe,
Emptiness is needed everywhere
and is used as metaphors
many times...
one feels empty
could imply that one is lonely,
bored, or sad...

Illumination By Merle Shain

google.com

It's better to light candles
than to curse the darkness.
It's better to plant seeds
than to accuse the earth.
The world needs all of our power
and love and energy,
Each of us has something that we can give.
The trick is to find it and use it,
to find it and give it away.
So there will always be more
we can be lights for each other,
and through each other's illumination
we will see the way
each of us is a seed,
a silent promise,
and it is always spring.

Landfall, Grenada By Christopher Okigbo: 4 Robert Head, Mariner!

Google.com

The place where you are tightly anchored,
the groundswell of ashy hillsides, the stirred canes
surging to cumuli cannot be heard,
Like the calm, bare ocean,
One motion bends the lawn where you were dropped,
and the tiered sea
whose murmurs you disfavored
thrusts out of sound.
.
Its moods held no mythology
for you, it was a worshiping place
of tonnage and ruled stars;
Your choose your landfall with a goodness's
casual certainty.
calm as that race
into whose heart you harbored;
your death was a log's entry,
Your suffering held the strenuous
reticence of those
whose rites are never public,
hating to impose, to offend.
Deep friend, such landfall going,
such mocking tolerance of those
neat gravestones elegies
that rhyme our end.
